About a week ago I went to see Dr. Raffael Winkler, Curator of birds, at the Natural History Museum Basel. He took me down into the museum’s basement and showed me their (only) two stuffed swans of the taxidermy collection along with numerous owls (the evil Rothbart takes an owl’s shape in Swan Lake). Regrettably, Dr. Winkler informed me that I would not be able to take the swans out of the basement, but that I could photograph them there and take specimen of the owls with me.
On our way out of the basement he told me about a spot along the Rhine up in Huningue, where I could find plenty of live swans if I were interested. This past Friday I finally hiked out there and shot a few snaps:
